Elephant Encounter

Meet the UK’s largest herd of African elephants at Howletts and see our adorable elephant calf! You’ll learn all about elephant behaviour, enrichment, anatomy and dietary requirements from one of our expert Keepers and may have the opportunity to help the team with an elephant feed.

Please be aware that the feed will be at a distance as we cannot allow direct contact with the elephants.

An alternative experience, if a distance feed is not possible on the day, will be to assist the team with preparation of some elephant enrichment toys and a behind the scenes tour of the elephant houses.

Minimum Age: 7 years old, under 16s must be accompanied by a full paying adult.

Additional Requirements

Please contact us on 01227 721286 before booking should you have any disability or illness which may require us to make any adjustments.

Dress Code

As we are in the UK, please dress appropriately for the English weather.

Additional information

Regrettably, certain guests will be unable to take part in some experiences including people with relevant phobias or known allergies, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals. Please contact us before booking, so we can advise.

Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate those with a disability or learning difficulty, due to practicality and health and safety this cannot always be achieved; please contact us for advice before booking.

We’d just like to take this opportunity to remind you that the welfare of our animals and safety of our guests is our first priority. We reserve the right to cancel experiences and activities at very short notice, if we believe the animals or our guests may be adversely affected. In the unlikely event that this occurs, we will provide you with alternative dates or offer a full refund for the safari, experience or activity you have booked.
