RYA First Aid One Day Course

In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small water craft and to support skippers.

The course follows the RYA Syllabus and is based on the recommendations of the Health and Safety Executive and the Department of trade. It meets the requirements for instructors of Dinghy, Windsurfing,Motor Cruiser, Inland Waterways Helmsman instructors and also for first aid training for vessels working up to area Category 2 under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Codes of Practice for Small Vessels Operated Commercially (The commercial endorsement) This first Aid course is an approved MCA Boat Master Licence Ancillary Course qualifying the holder for all water categories A,B,C and D.

Objectives

The subjects specific to boating include: the recovery position in a confined space CPR, including the drowning protocol cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure seasickness and dehydration medical assistance or advice by VHF helicopter rescue

Pre-requisities

Coffee and tea making facilities are available onsite. Please bring coins for the drinks machine and a packed lunch.

Dress code

Please wear loose casual clothing. This is a practical classroom course where you will be undertaking activities on the floor.

A copy of the latest First Aid Manual forms the course syllabus and is included in the course fee. A copy will be allocated on the day of the course.
